EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

Where would most non-profit organizations be today if volunteers did not roll up their sleeves to pitch in and help organizations succeed? The answer can be found in the renowned adage, “they would be floating up a river in a boat without a paddle.” In other words, without committed volunteers, the organization would not succeed. The Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU), rely on volunteers from Bridgeton and other areas within Cumberland County to help guide the board members through the logistics and planning of events to bolster the community. In December of 2020, BABU worked with several volunteers living in Bridgeton to identify six families that could use cheering up during the Christmas holiday season. BABU surprised the families with a variety of toys, bicycles, clothing, computer games and gift cards to purchase food and prepare a delightful holiday dinner. Volunteers have also been instrumental in BABU’s success by encouraging and urging the Bridgeton Board of Education to vote and agree to name the Bridgeton High School gymnasium after the longtime serving coach and teacher, Coach Felton Lingo. The official naming of the gymnasium to honor and celebrate Coach Felton Lingo was held on Friday, August 20, 2021.
